Ellen On Canceling Kim Burrell: I didn’t want to give her a platform.
Ellen Explains Uninviting Kim Burrell
Ellen is making it crystal clear as to why she pulled the plug on Kim Burrell’s appearance on her talk show. As previously reported, Burrell was scheduled to appear on The Ellen DeGeneres Show with Pharrell Williams, but after making controversial remarks about gay people, the talk show host un-invited her. While interviewing Pharrell, Ellen opens up about the situation.
You were supposed to do a different song, and you were supposed to perform it with a singer that, I actually didn’t know her. Her name is Kim Burrell. And she made a statement.
She continues:
She was doing a ‘Facebook Live’ and she said some very not nice things about homosexuals. So uh I didn’t feel like that was good of me to have her on the show to give her a platform after she’s saying things about me. So, I’ll let you talk about it for a minute.
Pharrell responded, stating that
She’s a fantastic singer, and I love her, just like I love everybody else, and we all got to get used to that.
He added,
We all have to get used to everyone’s differences and understand that this is a big, gigantic, beautiful, colorful world, and it only works with inclusion and empathy. It only works that way. Live and let live.
See the clip of Pharrell’s appearance below where he discusses Hidden Figures, expecting his second child and Burrell’s comments.
Burrell has yet to comment.
