Brad Pitt Admits Abusing Alcohol & Marijuana
Some would argue that it takes guts and humility to admit to problems with substance abuse. Brad Pitt, who is one of the most successful Hollywood actors, did just that in a recent interview, speaking publicly and candidly about what led to the split with Angelina Jolie. He came clean about all his issues affecting their marriage, admitting to abuse of drinking and marijuana in the past as an emotional barrier, per several reports.
Specifically, he said he used these substances to cover up his feelings. And he mentioned that his days of “boozing” and smoking weed had become a habit after college. He stated,
I’m personally very retarded when it comes to taking inventory of my emotions. I’m much better at covering up. I can’t remember a day since I got out of college when I wasn’t boozing or had a spliff, or something.
The split with Jolie has been far from easy for Pitt, but he says therapy has been a major contributing factor in his road to recovery. Dating back to September 2016, when Angelina announced that she was filing for divorce, the couple became embroiled in a better child custody battle in the months after the announcement.
The “Benjamin Button” star was also being investigated for allegedly abusing their children, stemming from an altercation with Pitt and their oldest son, Maddox, which he was eventually cleared of the allegations.
Details about a fight with the couple and their six children emerged from a close source to the family days after his interview, highlighting the pair’s issues and Pitt’s downfall with heavy drinking on the plane. Per news sources, during the 12 hour flight, he was allegedly “drinking heavily” while Jolie attempted to convince him to “sober up,” to no avail.
After they arrived to their destination, Angelina reportedly took all the kids to a hotel and left Pitt behind as she was infuriated with his continued behavior and wanted to talk things over the next morning.
The actor told reporters he has now replaced alcoholic beverages with cranberry juice and fizzy water.
As far as the divorce, Pitt said he and Jolie have decided to abandon the path of “vitriolic hatred” and work together to sort out their issues.
