He also finds it interesting that while other outlets and networks have embraced him openly, BET hasn’t invited him to their award shows. Milan says,

Oh yeah. Even with the producers and the directors and just everything. I mean, I was on Love and Hip Hop, I had my own Out in Hip Hop television show, I was on the cover of the New York Times, the cover of LA Times twice, on Wendy Williams, Ellen, you know, everywhere. And you know the Hip Hop Awards, the BET awards didn’t even invite me to do anything.

He continues,

It’s like, this is the first time this has ever happened in the history of hip hop music and you didn’t make a place for me because I’m gay? I felt very disrespected by that.

Does it really have anything to do with him being gay tho? I mean, I’ve never heard any of his work, that I know of. And I’d never heard of him, prior to LHH. And the fact that this article introduces him as a “Reality Star” and not a Rapper or whatever it is that he’s supposed to be, says a lot. There are other gay artists that do get recognition…ILoveMakonnen definitely comes to mind. Maybe you just aren’t on those shows, because you aren’t on their radar.

I agree…I don’t think its bc he’s gay but u know when they don’t get what they want the first thing they do is use the excuse “bc I’m gay”. Did it ever occur to him that maybe he’s not as known as he THINKS he is? I have NEVER heard or seen him b4 this….Its so stupid. Get over it!

While I agree with you both, Yvette don’t you think it’s kind of disrespectful to say “but u know when they don’t get what they want the first thing they do is use the excuse “bc I’m gay”? He clearly is less than smart and incognizant of his lack of relevance, but no need to discredit gay ppl in the process cause there are times when it is “bc I’m gay” but definitely not in this case. Just something to think about, have a good day.

Hi Kendall. I respect what saying but I stand by my comment. Does not mean this stands true r every gay person but there are some who always lame being gay on everything if they don’t get their way. I have absolutely nothing against gay men and women, I have a nephew who is gay, I am just calling it how I saw it. Here is a guy that so many are saying they have never heard of. Instead of him thinking “well yeah, maybe that COULD be a reason as well” he has to go with the “its bc I’m gay”. Is BET wrong for not inviting him, I think so but it is THEIR choice. Just accept it and do better for the next year. Don’t throw out insinuations like that towards such a huge company who could help u just bc ur in ur feelings. Make wiser decisions bc its ur career ur talking about. So, I still stand by what I said. Hope this helps u to understand what I was thinking when I wrote it. Have a great weekend, Kendall… And thank u for being an adult in how u addressed this….

No…..he wasn’t invited because he has not put any music out. Nor is he an actor nor an athlete. So he just wishing for an invite off of the strength of being a “Reality Star” which is not good enough for BET. Do better!

Milan Christopher first off for 1. Y u playin the GAY card for this event seriously, 2. Just because u was on Love & HipHop for 1 season and had couple YouTube videos don’t make u a artist, especially for BET AWARDS SHOW to personally invite u to the award show or even give u award. #hunni if ur this STAR then buy a ticket to the show, I’m sure u can afford a ticket, I know I can!

I think that BET is kinda homophobic. I remember that whole controversy they had with B.Scott about how they didnt like the clothes he was wearing and they made him change

I am not sure Milan’s argument is valid. Milan does not have any ties to the BET network, thus they have no obligation to extend an invitation for him to attend their awards show. We must get real with ourselves and accept responsibility for where we are in life and stop blaming others. Milan, you are not invited to the BET awards show again this year because you are a reality sensation (to some) on the VH1 network, not because you are gay. Has VH1 invited you to an awards show? If so, great!!! I think the statement that BET has not invited him to an awards show because he’s gay is a very ignorant one. Further, given the recent choice to pose completely nude in a current magazine spread does not necessarily give him earned celebrity rights. It says to me that he can do it, do it well and is trying to stay relevant like most REALITY stars. Quite frankly, Milan’s portfolio outside of modeling, which is sub-par leaves a lot to be desired and does not warrant an invitation to any mainstream media outlet awards show from what I’ve seen and researched. While, I have nothing against Milan and think he is an artist with great potential and applaud his successes thus far…he’s not there yet! That’s all!!!

I really don’t think being gay have anything to do with having him on the BET Awards maybe it’s not his time to be up there everyone has a season for everything believe me it’s been plenty of gay people on BET Awards he needs to sit down and wait his turn stop being insecure . People make choices every hip hop rapper cannot be on BET wait your season you can have anything to do with Tammy
