Gabrielle Union, Lebron James To Produce Comedy ‘White Dave’
LeBron James and Gabrielle Union are teaming up for TV. The NBA baller and Being Mary Jane actress will executive produce a comedy series in development at ABC, according to reports.
Titled “White Dave,” the single-camera series would follow a young African-American teenager who has grown up in an all-white suburb who suddenly moves to an all-black neighborhood when his mom remarries. The project is based on the life of David E. Talbert, who will write and executive produce.
James will executive produce through his company, SpringHill Entertainment, along with his producing partner Maverick Carter and Union. Warner Bros. Television, where James and SpringHill are set up under an overall deal, will produce.
David E. Talbert is a playwright, author, and filmmaker. He is a graduate of Morgan State University and attended the New York University film program. Talbert has won numerous NAACP awards for his work The Fabric of a Man, and a New York Literary Award in 2007 for his musical, Love in the Nick of Tyme. Talbert has also produced a television reality show, Black Stage, in which actors and singers compete to win a part in one of his plays. Talbert’s first film, First Sunday, was released in 2008. The film stars Ice Cube, Tracy Morgan and Katt Williams.
