VH1 Reality Star Suing Delta Sigma Theta
It’s time for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. to lawyer up! The not-for profit Greek-lettered sorority is facing a lawsuit by a former reality star. Priyanka Banks starred on VH1’s “Sorority Sisters” and is suing the organization for expelling her.
As previously reported, “Sorority Sisters” was axed after one month over backlash. Banks says she was expelled over her appearance on the show. She has brought her complaint in the Eastern District of New York. According to the complaint, Banks says she learned from “a random Facebook posting” on Jan. 13, 2015, that the Deltas had expelled her and with four of “Sorority Sisters” co-stars. Banks says she still has not received formal notice about her ejection.
Banks says controversy stemmed from VH1’s reputation for “ratchet television,” which she defines as a genre where black women are seen bickering,
using profanity, behaving violently and verbally tearing one another down.
Banks seeks punitive damages, alleging defamation, breach of contract and negligence, among other counts.
