T.I. Reaches Settlement w/ Ex-Employees Over Alleged Unpaid Wages
theJasmineBRAND exclusively reports, T.I. (real name Clifford Harris) has reached a financial settlement with his former restaurant employees. Docs were filed on January 19th, noting that the rapper, actor and activist reached a financial settlement.
Out of the 4 employees, one will be paid $17k, two employees will get $6k and the last will be paid $2k. Per the deal, all claims against T.I. and his former business will be dismissed.
He will also pay $43k to the plaintiffs law firm to cover their legal bills for a grant total of $75k to settle the entire case.
Here’s the backstory: T.I. was accused by his former restaurant employees of not paying overtime and wages to the staff. They filed a class action lawsuit. However, T.I. argued that he played no role in the day-to-day operations and revealed that the venture made him less than $500k.
Kyle Varges, Khori Vargas (both Bar Backer and Food Runner) and Shawn Yarborough (Lead Cook) sued T.I., his business partner Charles Hughes and Scales 925 Atlanta.
In the suit, they alleged that at times they worked up to 80 hours a week without ever paying overtime. Khori said one time she worked 112 hours in a week at the restaurant. They also claimed the defendants would pay them $15 in tips to split between them, when the actual amount in tips was much higher.
They sued seeking all unpaid overtime, liquidated damages and interest and attorney fees. The suit was one of multiple legal actions filed by former employees of Scales 925.
