EXCLUSIVE: Wiz Khalifa To Co-Star In Series About Selling Weed
theJasmineBRAND exclusively reports, TV/Film power couple Devon and Ranada Shepard have sold a TV series to Youtube Red with Wiz Khalifa (real name Cameron Jibril Thomaz) attached. The untitled series is centered around an ex-drug dealer who gets seed money from his childhood friend, Wiz Khalifa, to open a dispensary, he soon learns that selling weed in a dispensary is a lot harder than selling it on the street.
The Shepard’s will pen the script and produce in partnership with SMAC ENTERTAINMENT and TAYLOR GANG FILMS.
Devon is recognized for his work as a Showrunner and Producer on shows like Netflix’s Dear White People, Comedy Central’s Legends of Chamberlain Heights, Showtime’s Weeds, and most recently on BET’s Being Mary Jane. His wife Ranada is the Creator, Writer, and Co-Executive Producer of TVOne’s Born Again Virgin and recently sold a TV series based on her life to Lifetime.
Wiz Khalifa is a rapper, singer-songwriter and actor. He released his debut album, Show and Prove, in 2006, and signed to Warner Bros. Records in 2007. He gained national attention for his debut single for Atlantic, “Black and Yellow”, which peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. His debut album for the label, Rolling Papers, was released on March 29, 2011. He followed that album with O.N.I.F.C. on December 4, 2012, which was backed by the singles “Work Hard, Play Hard” and “Remember You”. Wiz released his fifth album Blacc Hollywood on August 18, 2014, backed by the lead single “We Dem Boyz”. In March 2015, he released “See You Again” for the soundtrack of the film Furious 7 and the song peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 non-consecutive weeks.
