Donald Glover In The Running For “Willie Wonka and The Chocolate Factory” Prequel
Platinum recording artist/actor Donald Glover is on a short list of actors in consideration for Warner Bros. new production of “Willie Wonka and The Chocolate Factory.” The upcoming film is reportedly a prequel that will cover the origin of the popular character. It appears the film will be used to answer questions about the role made famous by late actor Gene Wilder.
The multi-talented Glover is a writer, actor, comedian, producer, director and musician. He records music under the stage name Childish Gambino. His most recent album, 2016 “Awaken, My Love” was released on Glassnote Records. The album, spawned the Billboard top 20 hit single “Redbone” as reported, this year he was nominated for two Grammy Awards, including” Album of the Year” for ‘Awaken, My Love’ and “Record of the Year” for ‘Redbone.’ Earlier this year, Glover signed a new recording agreement with RCA Records.
A follow up to ‘Awaken, My Love’ is expected later this year. Glover is coming off the success of the controversial “This is America” music video, a marvelous showing as Lando Calrissian (playing a younger version of the famous Billy Dee Williams character) in Disney’s ‘Solo’. TIME said,
Donald Glover’s Lando Calrissian Is the Best Part of Solo.
Additionally, he has another hit series called Atlanta, on his plate as well.
Glover is very much in demand it is rumored he will be joining Michael B. Jordan as a villain in the ‘Black Panther’ sequel.
The highly anticipated 2019 Lion King reboot will feature James Earl Jones returning as the voice of King Mufasa. Glover will play the grown version of his son Simba. Superstar Beyonce will also join the cast, voicing the character of Nala.
Although Glover, nor anyone from his camp are speaking about the potential ‘Willy Wonka’ opportunity, he is said to want the role. Also in consideration for the role are actors Ryan Gosling and Ezra Miller.
