Mara Brock Akil’s Husband Producer Salim Akil Sued For Domestic & Physical Violence, Woman Claims He Strangled Her & Urinated In Her Mouth
A woman named Amber Dixon Brenner has filed a revealing and damaging lawsuit against Salim Akil, Mara Brock Akil’s husband. Brenner, who is a writer and actress, is suing Salim for a breach of contract and domestic violence. Brenner alleges her and Salim had a years-long
physically and sexually abusive relationship.
Their alleged relationship dates back to almost 10 years ago, and initially began as,
A dating relationship, which involved frequent sexual contact.
While the relationship began to evolve, so did the violence. In the suit Brenner recalls on her birthday at the Los Angeles Roosevelt Hotel: Brenner followed Salim to the restroom, after being asked, and he proceeded to slap her and forced her to perform oral sex, which then turned into him urinating in her mouth.
In another instance, Brenner recalled when they were at his home on Martha’s Vineyard and,
he proceeded to stick three fingers up her anus and started lecturing her.
Outside of the physicality of their relationship, Salim was allegedly verbally abusive, as well.
In one instance, he ordered her to lick the wall of an underground parking lot while snapping a photo of her doing so. In addition to that, Salim allegedly detailed how he would dispose of Brenner’s body in a desert if she ever got pregnant, and if they were married, and she cheated on him,
he would stick her hand in a hot skillet of grease.
Brenner didn’t want to leave Salim because she believed she loved him. There would be other occasions where Salim would perpetuate the idea he had different professional collaborations and acting roles for her to participate in, but would never follow through. Brenner’s suffering has been extended so far, it’s caused her to attend therapy to make sense of the abuse she has allegedly endured.
According to the suit, Brenner claims there was a breach of contract in 2015 after Salim used an angle of her script for “Love & Perversity in the East Village” for an ABC show that never made the air, but was eventually used for his OWN series “Love Is ___.” Brenner states she showed the script in hopes of another possible collaboration and the submission,
was made with the implied understanding that Salim would not use any of the ideas within LPEV without the involvement and compensation of Brenner.
It’s presumed these interactions and encounters took place during Salim’s marriage to Mara Brock. Salim and Mara have been married since 1999, and just this past year aired their executive produced love story on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN titled “Love Is ___.” The show centers around how Salim and Mara Brock’s love for each other came into fruition, while detailing the trials and tribulations of naysayers, insecurities, and the discovery of one other.
Brenner is suing for compensatory damages, emotional distress, attorney fees, and punitive damages. The amount she is asking for is not disclosed in her complaint.
