Prince Music Inspired Movie Underway
The power of the purple prevails! Iconic singer/musician Prince is making power moves – even in the afterlife. Reportedly, Universal Pictures has negotiated a deal with Prince’s estate to develop a movie with a fictional plot, narrated by several classic Prince songs. Universal is creating the film with another one of their famous projects in mind – “Mamma Mia!” That movie is a fictional story set to the music of Swedish pop group, ABBA.
Troy Carter, the entertainment advisor of Prince’s estate, will serve as executive producer of the film. However, would Prince approve of his music being used in this way? Rapper Jay Z revealed in his “4:44” song, “Caught In Their Eyes,” that he had a private conversation with Prince – a Tidal artist-owner – about how he wanted his catalog to be handled before he passed. Jay Z rapped:
“I sat down with Prince, eye to eye
He told me his wishes before he died
Now, Londell McMillan, he must be color blind
They only see green from them purple eyes”
He continued:
“This guy had ‘Slave’ on his face
You think he wanted the masters with his masters?
You greedy bastards sold tickets to walk through his house
I’m surprised you ain’t auction off the casket”
And this movie isn’t the only Prince-centric project in the works.
“A Wrinkle In Time” director Ava Duvernay confirmed she’ll be producing a Prince documentary for Netflix with exclusive archival footage from his estate.
Prince earned countless awards and sold over 100 million records worldwide before his sudden passing in 2016. Are you looking forward to a movie set to Prince’s music?
