Steve Harvey Was Blindsided by NBCUniversal’s Decision to Replace His Show w/ Kelly Clarkson’s New Show: “That’s my slot!”
Comedian/talk show host Steve Harvey admits that – like the rest of us – he was shocked by his distribution network’s decision to replace his talk show, “STEVE,” with Kelly Clarkson‘s upcoming show in a few markets. As previously reported, NBCUniversal will no longer be in charge of distributing “STEVE” at the end of this season, leaving the fate of his talk show up in the air. Steve was recently asked if he had plans to stay with NBCUniversal. He replied,
“I thought I was, until they made an announcement a couple weeks ago that they wanted to give Kelly Clarkson the [NBC] O&O networks – that’s my slot.”
He continued, noting that he was blindsided:
“I thought it would have been nice of them to come to me — as the only dude who’s survived [in daytime TV] for seven years — about it.”
He hinted that – like NBCUniversal – he has his own surprise announcements. He said:
“I’ve already proven I’m the hardest-working man in show business. I’m working smarter…I gotta make announcements, too. It will be something real cute.”
Steve Harvey is a man who wears many hats as daytime talk show host, game show host, syndicated radio personality, actor, and comedian. He previously said this about the fate of “STEVE:”
“This is NBC’s decision… I don’t own any TV networks but I’m not a grudge type of person. I happen to be a talent. I think people recognize that. Whatever happens with the show moving forward, I’ll be just fine.”
