Da Brat Does Not Support R.Kelly, Apologizes To Parents Of Alleged Victims
Just a few days ago, while on the red carpet for the Trumpet Awards, rapper/radio host Da Brat was asked about R. Kelly to which she responded that she would “still listen to his music” and further stated that at some point the parents of the alleged victims have to take some responsibility for what happened. She also did state that while she never saw him do anything inappropriate, she believed that the alleged victims were telling the truth.
Speaking exclusively on The Rickey Smiley Morning Show where she is a regular co-host, Da Brat addressed some of the negativity surrounding her support for R. Kelly. She began by stating that she stayed up all night and watched the 6-part documentary Surviving R. Kelly once again. Upon her second viewing, she said she realized that
“you think you know someone, and you don’t.”
She continued to say that she apologizes to the parents of the alleged victims and that
“no one deserves this…I’m sorry that you have to go through this. I stand on the side of right. Wrong is wrong and right is right.”
Brat also stressed that she in no way condones sexual abuse or assault by anyone. When asked by host Rickey Smiley if she saw the documentary before, she responded that she did,
“I watched it, but uhh, I don’t think I watched it from the right view.”
