R.Kelly Done W/ New Album, Looking For New Label After Being Dropped By Sony
Singer R. Kelly‘s career is in a tailspin amid backlash from the Lifetime documentary, Surviving R. Kelly. Several women have come forward detailing graphic accounts of mental, emotional, and sexual abuse, and even holding women against their will in his Atlanta and Chicago homes. These devastating stories have lead to a resurgence in the #MuteRKelly movement, which has prompted artists such as Lady GaGa, Chance the Rapper, and Celine Dion to remove their collaborations with him from streaming platforms. His record label and distributing label – Sony Music and Universal Music Publishing – have also cut ties with the once beloved R&B singer, according to reports.
Interestingly enough, R. Kelly has recently finished recording new music, and wants his album released immediately. A source says that his team has been looking for a new distributing label for months. The source said:
“It’s possible the release won’t hit the market as soon as hoped.”
Despite the spike in streams of his music on streaming platforms, Spotify will not allow R. Kelly to release his new album through their new direct-upload feature, which is still in its beta phase. Actress Jada Pinkett-Smith asked for input from her Instagram followers on why R. Kelly’s music saw substantial increase in sales.
Jada also featured one of his accusers, Lisa Van Allen, on her Facebook talk show, “Red Table Talk.”
Will R. Kelly be able to re-establish his career? And are you looking forward to his new album? Let us know in the comments.
