R. Kelly Released From Jail After $161,000 Child Support Payment Made On His Behalf
R. Kelly is officially a free man. On Saturday, the R&B singer was released from a Chicago jail after someone paid $161,000 that he owed in back child support. Kelly said he didn’t have the entire $161,000 he owed, briefly spoke with reporters, telling them:
“I promise you, we’re going to straighten all this stuff out.”
His attorney, Steve Greenberg, said he could not discuss the child support payment because of a judge’s gag order in that case.
He was released around noon. The singer’s next court appearance on the child support charges is set for March 13th.
As previously reported, Kelly’s former attorney who helped the singer during his acquittal of the child pornography charges in 2008, Ed Genson, recently spoke out. Genson, 77, comments on the reason Kelly ‘stayed out of trouble’ for 10 years after his acquittal:
“He was guilty as hell! I don’t think he’s done anything inappropriate for years. I’ll tell you a secret: I had him go to a doctor to get shots, libido-killing shots. That’s why he didn’t get arrested for anything else.”
Steve Greenberg, Kelly’s current lawyer, told reporters Saturday that his client is innocent and enjoys the presumption of innocence.
“We don’t try people in the court of public opinion. So we’re going to focus on the evidence, we’re going to fight the case in the courtroom.”
After his recent release from jail, Kelly spoke to reporters,
“We’re going to straighten this stuff out, that’s all I can say right now. I promise you.”
