Oprah Reveals One Of The Nicest Things Gayle King Has Ever Done For Her
Media mavens Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King are the ultimate best friend goals! Gayle recently revealed to People that Oprah surprised her with a visit to ensure that she didn’t spend her first holiday after her divorce, alone. Gayle says it’s the nicest thing she’s ever done for her. Gayle dished about the New Year’s Eve surprise:
“My ex was going to have the kids. I was talking to Oprah on the phone that morning. And I said, ‘What are you guys doing?’ And, she told me something. Four hours later, the doorbell rang and she and Stedman [Graham] were at the door! She had been planning to come. I didn’t know that.”
Oprah, Gayle, and Stedman rang in the new year with a home-cooked meal. She continued:
“We went grocery shopping — Stedman liked to cook spaghetti. We went grocery shopping, got all the stuff to make spaghetti. He cooked. I just kept saying, ‘I can’t believe you guys were here.’ That was something that I’ll never, ever, ever forget.”
Gayle King was able to return the favor for Oprah many years later. A woman knows when her bestie is having a hard time. Gayle flew to Oprah’s side for just a few hours, simply to check on her. Oprah said:
“I was really down. I felt wounded by a betrayal.”
Gayle added:
“I had been talking to her on the telephone. I could tell that she was very upset about something. And I literally, hung up the phone, and I said to the babysitter, ‘I’ve got to go. Is there any way you can spend the night?’”
Oprah recalls the moment:
“She showed up at my door and said, ‘I can’t stay but I just wanted to see your face.’ Then she got a glass of water and said, ‘I’m going to go back and get on a plane.’ I was like, ‘What?’ She goes, ‘You said you felt wounded. I never heard you use the word wounded before.’”
The besties now host their own hilarious webseries, “The OG Chronicles,” where they answer fans’ questions and share anecdotes they’ve learned over the years. It’s almost like watching your two favorite aunties onscreen, but don’t tell them we said that!
