LeBron James To Give New Acquired Teammate Anthony Davis No. 23
Los Angeles Lakers superstar player, LeBron James welcomes newly acquired center, Anthony Davis with the rights of the number 23 jersey, according to reports. Since being drafted in 2012 by his former team, the New Orleans Pelicans, Davis, 26, has worn the No. 23 throughout his entire seven-year NBA career. Since securing their blockbuster trade, LeBron reportedly extended his hand to make his new teammate as comfortable as possible
“James is laying the groundwork to make his soon-to-be new teammate as comfortable as possible, and the six-time All-Star was extremely grateful of the gesture.”
James has worn two different jersey numbers throughout his NBA career with his most worn No. 23 with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Lakers. When James took his talents to South Beach, the 3-time NBA champion wore the No. 6 with the Miami Heat.
Since the Heat retired Michael Jordan’s number in April 2003, James opted to use the No. 6 from 2010-14 because Julius Erving was his second-favorite player after Jordan when he was growing up, according to Cleveland.com.
As previously reported, in mid June, the Lakers reached an agreement with the New Orleans Pelicans to acquire 3-time NBA All-Star, Anthony Davis for a core of young talent including Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, and future draft picks. The blockbuster trade was stalled over the week as the teams were in discussion to include Lakers forward, Kyle Kuzma in trade. According to ESPN,
The future picks going to the Pelicans include a 2021 pick that will go to New Orleans if it is in the top eight in that year’s draft — and will become an unprotected pick in 2022 if it isn’t.
It is unclear what number James will select for their upcoming season. The Nos. 8, 13, 22, 24, 25, 32, 33, 34, 42, 44 and 52 are retired by the Lakers. Currently, James along with Davis is expected to be featured in the sequel of the classic animated film Space Jam cameos from Portland Blazer, Damian Lillard, and Warriors star, Klay Thompson.
