R. Kelly Is Back In Jail, Arrested For Federal Sex Trafficking, Child Pornography And Other Charges

R. Kelly is back in jail yet again this year. The  singer was arrested… this time for sex trafficking, child pornography, enticement of a minor, obstruction fo justice and a number of other charges. He is facing a 13-count federal indictment. New York Police Department officers and Homeland Security investigators took R. Kelly into custody Thursday.

Details of the arrest are scarce but reportedly he will be transferred from Chicago to New York for the charges.

R. Kelly’s ex-wife, Drea Kelly, refused to comment on the incident for now.

R. Kelly’s allegedly inappropriate conduct with women has been a focal point this year almost more than ever. He was arrested in February and charged with 10 state counts of aggravated sexual abuse against four women. Three of those women were minors at the time of the alleged incident. R. Kelly entered a not-guilty plea and posted bail to be released from jail in Cook County in Chicago.

Then in May, 11 charges were filed against him. Those charges included aggravated criminal assault, criminal sexual assault by force, criminal sexual abuse and criminal sexual abuse against a victim between the ages of 13 and 16. The accuser was identified as J.P., and eight of the alleged incidents occurred in January 2010, and three others between May 2009 and January 2010. Before this week’s arrest, he was free o a $1 million bond. He had a court date for June 6 on those charges. R. Kelly’s lawyer insisted the 11 new charges stemmed from an existing case.

Either way, R. Kelly’s history with women became an even more intense conversation after Drea and a host of other women shared their stories of alleged abuse at the hands of the singer in Lifetime’s Surviving R. Kelly. 

Considering this, the  2008 child pornography charges are also resurfacing and looming over R. Kelly as more charges are brought against him. In that case, he was accused of having sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old. He was acquitted after the alleged victim and her parents refused to testify.

R. Kelly has maintained his innocence, including during an explosive interview with Gayle King on CBS This Morning in March.
