Taraji P. Henson – Woman Accused Of Stealing Her Identity, Compromising Email & Charging Thousands Of Dollars
Taraji P. Henson was allegedly a victim of identity theft. According to reports, Alicia Newby, a 29-year-old mother of six, is said to have stolen the identify of the 48-year-old ‘Empire’ actress, along with others. Reportedly, Alicia compromised Taraji’s email and attempted to make more than $4,000 in fraudulent transactions. Taraji’s manager discovered the fraud last August and the transactions were canceled.
Alicia’s hearing was on Sunday, at the Leighton Criminal Court Building in Chicago, and prosecutors accused her of stealing the identities of several people and collecting thousands of dollars in merchandise mailed to dummy addresses. She was ordered released on a $10,000 bail and electronic monitoring.
Prosecutors calculated that the woman’s alleged scheme totaled more than $12,000 in fraudulent transactions. More than $4,000 was canceled by Taraji’s team.
No word as to how and if Alicia and Taraji knew each other.
Prosecutors say that Alicia compromised Taraji’s email.
“Once this was done, the defendant then raided the account for a variety of information,” including phone numbers, addresses, financial accounts and telephone numbers that she could then use to purchase items online.
In addition to defrauding Taraji, Alicia also defrauded JP Morgan Chase, American Express and PayPal and multiple other merchants in her scheme.
Reportedly, Taraji’s team notified the Chicago police after they noticed fraudulent charges appearing on several of her accounts. The items were being shipped to two South Side addresses under names they didn’t recognize.
No additional details about the case have been revealed.
