Jermaine Dupri Says Mariah Carey Is The Greatest Song Writer In History: You Can’t Sit With Us!

Jermaine Dupri is stanning for his friend Mariah Carey.  It was recently reported that Carey’s iconic hit “One Sweet Day” is no longer the longest-running number 1 song on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. It was bested by Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road.”

But Dupri insists that Carey is still one of the greatest to ever do it.

He shared a tweet from Billboard Charts that shows the songs that have spent the most weeks at number 1 on the cart.

“Old Town Road” is at the top of the list with 18 weeks, followed by “One Sweet Day” feat Boyz II Men at number 16. But that’s not Carey’s only appearance on the chart. Her song “We Belong Together”, which Dupri produced, is number 6 with 14 weeks.

In response, Dupri wrote,

“No!! You can’t sit with us, go sit over there and based on the stats and this chart @mariahcarey is the greatest song writer in history”

It’s not clear if he was taking a jab, because he’s actually defended Lil Nas X in the past.

He questioned Billboard after it was revealed that Lil Nas X was removed from the country charts, while Justin Bieber was nominated for a Billboard R&B award.

Interestingly enough, Carey doesn’t seem to have an issue with Lil Nas X either. She even joked with him about jumping on a remix of his successful hit before it broke her record.

She later congratulated him with a photo of her passing a torch. She tweeted,

“Sending love & congrats to @LilNasX on breaking one of the longest running records in music history!” Carey tweeted, alongside an illustration of her literally passing the torch to Lil Nas X. “We’ve been blessed to hold this record with a song that means a great deal to @BoyzIIMen and myself and has touched so many. Keep living your best life!”
