Tina Turner Doesn’t Know If She Could Ever Forgive All That Ike Turner Did To Her

Tina Turner Doesn’t Know If She Could Ever Forgive All That Ike Turner Did To Her

American treasure turned Swiss housewife – legendary singer Tina Turner – is taking a seat in the audience instead of the stage ahead of her life story’s journey to Broadway in “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical.” And that’s just the way she likes it! After retiring from the music business in 2009, she lives a lavish life in Switzerland with her husband, Erwin Bach – a far cry from her late ex-husband, Ike Turner. In honor of the biographical musical’s Broadway premiere, she’s opening up about how she feels about music and Ike years after his death.

Tina, 79, says she has no desire to return to the stage ten years after her official retirement:

“I don’t sing, I don’t dance, I don’t dress up…I was just tired of singing and making everybody happy. That’s all I’d ever done in my life.”

After seeing “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical” for the first time in London, she told the actor who plays Ike Turner that she “forgives him.” The same can’t be said for the real Ike Turner. Tina said:

“I don’t know if I could ever forgive all that Ike ever did to me – [but] Ike’s dead. So we don’t have to worry about him.”

She revealed that the abuse depicted in the 1993 film, “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” only touches the surface of what Tina Turner endured:

“I think I’m ashamed. I feel I told enough.”

On if she identifies with the #MeToo movement:

“I identify only with my life. I was busy doing it. Doing the work…I don’t necessarily want to be a ‘strong’ person. I had a terrible life. I just kept going. You just keep going, and you hope that something will come. This [referring to her husband] came.”
