Barack & Michelle Obama Celebrate 27th Wedding Anniversary!

President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s life is still going strong after their days in the White House. The couple celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary Thursday (Oct. 3).

Barack took to Instagram to share an intimate photo of Michelle hugging him from behind and wrote,

“Like the Beatles said: It’s getting better all the time. Thanks, babe, for 27 amazing years!”

Michelle also shared a few sweet words.

“27 years ago, this guy promised me a life full of adventure. I’d say he’s delivered. Here’s to our next chapter of becoming empty nesters and discovering what’s next—while still feeling the magic that brought us together all those years ago. Happy anniversary, Barack”

In her best-seller Becoming, Michelle dished on how she and Barack met during their days in the south side of Chicago.

While she was skeptical of him at first, they seemed to develop a bond over their dislike for a play, and the rest is history. Michelle wrote,

“I don’t know if it was my mood or whether it was just Les Misérables itself, but I spent the next hour feeling helplessly pounded by French misery. Grunts and chains. Poverty and rape. Injustice and oppression. Millions of people around the world had fallen in love with this musical, but I squirmed in my seat, trying to rise above the inexplicable torment I felt every time the melody repeated.”

“When the lights went up for intermission, I stole a glance at Barack. He was slumped down, with his right elbow on the armrest and index finger resting on his forehead, his expression unreadable.”

“What’d you think?” I said.

He gave me a sideways look. “Horrible, right?”

Years later, she gushed about him during the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

“I loved Barack just the way he was. Our life before moving to Washington was filled with simple joys. Saturdays at soccer games, Sundays at Grandma’s house. And a date night for Barack and me was either dinner or a movie, because as an exhausted mom, I couldn’t stay awake for both. He was still the guy who’d picked me up for our dates in a car that was so rusted out, I could actually see the pavement going by through a hole in the passenger-side door.”
