Elton John Says Michael Jackson Was ‘Mentally Ill’ & ‘A Disturbing Person To Be Around’

Elton John had to get a few things off of his chest about late singer Michael Jackson.  Elton John shared his thoughts on Jackson in his autobiography Me: Elton John.

John said Jackson was sweet as a child, but changed as he got older.

“At some point in the intervening years, he started sequestering himself away from the world, and away from reality the way Elvis Presley did.”

John suggested that prescription drugs were a factor Jackson’s alleged changes.

“God knows what was going on in his head, and God knows what prescription drugs he was being pumped full of, but every time I saw him in his later years I came away thinking the poor guy had totally lost his marbles. I don’t mean that in the lighthearted way. He was genuinely mentally ill, a disturbing person to be around.”

John went on to say that Jackson also rarely hung around people his own age.

“For whatever reason, he couldn’t seem to cope with adult company at all.”

His comments come after Jackson was called out in an HBO documentary “Leaving Neverland” that premiered in January. In the special, hosted by Oprah Winfrey, two men, James Safechuck and Wade Robson claimed that Jackson sexually assaulted them when they were children.

In 2005, Jackson was found not guilty of 14 counts for charges concerning allegations he molested then 13-year-old  Gavin Arvizo, a cancer patient in remission.
