Mara Brock Akil and her husband Salim Akil appear to still be going strong! On Christmas the screenwriter and producer shared a sweet photo with her husband who is also a screenwriter and producer. Sharing a photo of them together she captioned it:

In 2018, Salim Akil was sued for domestic violence and breach of contract by actress Amber Dixon Brenner. Amber Dixon Brenner alleged that she had a relationship with Salim Akil. She claims abuse and alleged that Salim Akil stole idea for his show “Love Is___”. [Click here for the story].
Salim has maintained his innocence.
Mara and Salim married in 1999. The couple has two sons.
The Akils created and executive produced a scripted superhero series, Black Lightning, based on DC Comics’ Black Lightning series.
