Rapper Saweetie’s “My Type” goes Double Platinum, Announces New Music
Bay Area rapper Saweetie (26) (real name Diamonté Qiava Valentin Harper) has got a lot to celebrate these days. In addition to her make-up collaboration with Morphe, her 2019 summer hit “My Type” has just been certified double platinum, while the accompanying video currently sits at 78 million views on YouTube.
This is Saweetie’s second and highest certified song following 2018’s “Icy Girl”. On April 17th Saweetie posted a picture of the certification with the follow caption assuring fans that new music was on the way.
Saweetie was first noticed in 2016 when she started posting short clips of her rapping on social media. One of the clips into the song now know as “Icy Girl” and she uploaded it to the popular music site Soundcloud. The song and video went viral, catching the attention of producer Max Gousse, who would later become her manager and help her secure a deal with Warner Brother’s Music and also create her own label, Icy Records.
Saweetie’s personal life is shining just as much as her professional life. In 2018 she started dating Migos’ member Quavo (29), and there might be some wedding bells ringing soon.
