Drake Drops New Music Project w/ ‘Dark Lane Demo Tapes’ + Hints At Summer Album [LISTEN]
6 God is back! Rapper Drake released his new mixtape project called ‘Dark Lane Demo Tapes,‘ on Friday (May 1st). This is the rapper’s first mixtape in nearly two year from his award winning 2018, ‘Scorpion.’ The Canadian rapper unveiled his new surprise project on Instagram with not one but two treats, a mixtape and a new album in the works this summer. He writes,
“My brothers [Olive and Noel] put together a lot of songs people have been asking for (some leaks and some joints form SoundCloud and some new vibes).”
He later hints that his May project will be followed up with a summer album release.
“Also my 6th studio album dropping summer 2020!!! Luck number 6, soon fwd.”
For his mixtape, Drake continues his quarantining as he wears a mask on the cover of ‘Dark Lane,’ channeling his inner Mortal Kombat. Soon after announcing his surprise mixtape release, Drake teased a song from ‘Dark Lane,‘ called “Time Flies,” with an animated clip generating over 2 million views in less than 24 hours.
Drake’s 14-song mixtape is filled with notable featured guest appearances including Chris Brown, Giveon, Young Thug and Playboi Carti.
Last month, he opened up about his upcoming album, explaining:
“I’m working on the album. I’ve been working on it a while now. And like I said, another silver lining is when God does get you to sit down- I remember the last time I had to sit down was when I tore my ACL, and I made a great album out of that. And, obviously, God has us all inside the house right now sitting down right. So the amount of focus I’ve been able to put into this album is probably way different than it would have been if I would’ve had to go do the residency in Vegas…so I’m saying all that to say this is the most excited about an album I’ve been in a long time…This is probably the most music I’v ever been sitting on. I’m hype!”
