Amanda Seales Bursts In Tears During ‘The Real’ Taping After Watching Viral Footage Of Ahmaud Arbery’s Murder
With countless furloughs and deaths linked to COVID-19, and race-related police brutality – we are in heavy times. “The Real” co-host Amanda Seales is one of many highly affected by the killing of Ahmaud Arbery – a 25-year-old Georgia man allegedly hunted down by a white father and son while jogging in his neighborhood. Shocking footage of Ahmaud Arbery losing his life went viral on social media two months after his February death, while the suspects – Gregory and Travis McMichael – walked free.
Social media users expressed outrage at the fact that the two men are seen killing the unsuspecting Ahmaud on video, and were not immediately arrested. Shortly after viewing the footage, Amanda Seales emotionally called for justice during The Real‘s at-home taping. Amanda Seales said:
“I’m not good. By the time this airs, I hope that something has been done. I just saw the video of the 25-year-old man, Ahmaud Arbery, in Georgia. And they have video of him being gunned down by these two white men with guns that felt he was running in their neighborhood, and they needed to go take him out. And they have video of it! They have video of them taking this young man’s life! And he’s literally just jogging through the neighborhood! And they cut him off with their truck, and he’s running, and they shoot him in his stomach! And he’s trying to keep running, and he falls to the ground.”
Amanda Seales condemned The Real‘s fans who criticize that she brings too much activism to the lighthearted show:
“…I sit here everyday on this show and I go in our comments, and I see people say, ‘Why does she always talk about race? Why do we always talk about Black people?…Why can’t we just sit up here and have a good time?’ Because things like this are actually happening! I feel crazy! I feel crazy right now! And we’re gonna sit here and do a show right now, and I just saw the most horrific thing I may have ever seen in my life!”
Within days of the footage going viral, Gregory and Travis McMichael were arrested and charged for murder and denied bail. But many are still upset at the fact that had the video not circulated online, the father and son murderers would have gotten away with their heinous crime.
