Beyonce Supports Minneapolis Protestors, Calls For ‘Alignment & Focus’ In Fight For George Floyd
Grammy Award-winning singer Beyonce has joined the ranks of many celebrities who have spoken out regarding the police-involved death of 46-year-old father of two and restaurant security worker, George Floyd. She recently shared the following photo on Instagram, where a sea of people can be seen marching together across a highway bridge in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The city has been in the spotlight since former police officer Derek Chauvin pinned his knee on George Floyd’s neck for nearly 9 minutes, ultimately leading to his death.
Beyonce’s photo reads:
The world came together for George Floyd. We know there is a long road ahead. Let’s remain aligned and focused in our call for real justice.

The “real justice” the multi-talented performer is referring to may be directly related to the latest updates in the charges against Derek Chauvin. Organizations and people across the world have called for higher charges to be brought against not only Derek Chauvin, but for the other three former officers involved to be charged as well.

Just yesterday (June 3rd), the murder charges against Chauvin were upgraded from 3rd-degree to 2nd-degree and the other three former officers involved–J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Kiernan Lane, and Tou Thao–have been charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder.

Beyonce also made headlines recently after she called on her fans to sign a petition aimed at justice for George Floyd. In a video posted to her Instagram, Bey spoke on how we “all witnessed his murder in broad daylight” and her frustration with racism was apparent as she encouraged fans to use their voice to help obtain justice for this and other incidents:
No more senseless killings of human beings. No more seeing people of color as less than human. We can no longer look away. George was all of our family in humanity. He’s our family because he’s a fellow American. There have been too many times that we’ve seen these violent killings and no consequences. Yes someone’s been charged, but justice is far from being achieved. Please sign the petition, continue to pray for peace, compassion, and healing for our country. Thank you so much.
