Black Woman Blinded In 1 Eye After Being Hit With Rubber Bullet While Protesting, Hires Lisa Bloom For Lawsuit Against Sacramento Police
A black California woman is currently reeling from the effects of being hit with a rubber bullet, after attending a ‘Black Lives Matter’ rally in Sacramento. Shantania Love, 29, said in an interview that while attending her first ever ‘BLM’ protest, she was reportedly shot by police in the eye with a rubber bullet. Shantania Love recounted the incident:
“It was peaceful. We were out there for about three or four hours. Then, there was something that happened agitated the crowd, so they sent 20 more police officers out. Then, the crowd [began] saying “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot”. I was actually walking away. I was walking towards the sidewalk, and [when] I turned around to see where my brother was at… that’s when they hit me.”
Afterwards, at the hospital, surgeons informed the mother of two that it’s 99.9% certain she will lose her sight in her left eye.
Although Shantania Love is losing sight in one of her eyes, she said she does not regret attending the protest, but now plans on suing The Sacramento Police Department, with the help of Lisa Bloom.
Lisa Bloom, a well respected lawyer, who’s well-known for helping represent women whose sexual harassment claims against Bill O’Reilly led to his firing from Fox News. Now, she taking on Shantania Love’s case.
On Thursday (June 11th), Lisa Bloom uploaded a video of Love speaking on the incident, and informed Twitter that she and Love will continue to speak on the matter, and a complaint will be filed soon.
“29 year old mom of two daughters. Medical worker. Blinded in one eye at her first protest, after police shot rubber bullets into the crowd, in clear violation of her constitutional rights. Nia and I are speaking out about this daily, and complaint will be filed soon.” #BLM
