Diddy Congratulates Ms. Opal Lee For Receiving 1 Million Signatures Towards Making JUNETEENTH A National Holiday

Congratulations are in order for Ms. Opal Lee! Media mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, 50, reached out to Opal Lee,93, to inform her that she had reached her goal of 1 million signatures towards making JUNETEENTH a national holiday.

JUNETEENTH is a holiday (June 19, 1865), which celebrates the emancipation of Blacks that were enslaved in the United States. Since the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man, who was killed while in police custody, the Black Lives Matter Movement has been reignited. Nationwide, people have gathered the streets to protest justice for the likes of George Floyd, an end to systematic racism, and for unity among the Black race.

This list also includes Opal Lee, who for the last few weeks, has worked tirelessly to get the government to recognize JUNETEENTH as a national holiday. Several major companies such as NIKE and Twitter have pronounced the historical day as a paid holiday.

On his official Instagram page, Diddy announced:

He also thanked several celebrities that helped achieved this goal including Usher, Kylie Jenner, DJ Khaled, Terrence J, Mary J Blige, and Jeezy.

Diddy began supporting Opal Lee’s cause three days ago (June 19). He used his platform on IG to ask for his followers to help make her dreams come true by signing her petition,

He continued on as the days follow, informing his followers how many signatures she needed as she got closer to 1 million.
