‘When They See Us’ Star Jharrel Jerome Lands Lead As 13-Foot Man In Upcoming ‘I’m A Virgo’ Show
Director, Boots Riley, who made his 2018 directorial debut with Sorry To Bother You, announced on Twitter that he has a new show entitled I’m A Virgo and actor Jharrel Jerome will be playing the lead.
Boots Riley teased on Twitter Monday (June 22nd),
“I have a show about a 13-ft tall Black man who lives in Oakland. It’s called I’m A Virgo. Jharrel Jerome is playing the lead. I’m doing this w Michael Ellenberg’s Media Res. We haven’t decided on the network/streamer.”
He concluded with,
“It’ll be dark, absurd, hilarious, and important.”
Jharrel Jerome is best known for his compelling breakout role as Korey Wise in Ava Duvernay’s four-part Netflix series When They See Us. The project tells the story of five boys, now men, Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, and Korey Wise, who were falsely imprisoned for the rape of a white woman in Central Park. They were later exonerated after Matias Reyes, a serial rapist, confessed to the crime years later.
Jharrel Jerome’s jaw-dropping performance playing Korey Wise as a youth and an adult earned him an Emmy, making history as the youngest person to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie as well as the first Afro-Latino to win for his acting.
Congrats to both Boots Riley and Jharrel Jerome.
