Kanye West Has Missed Key Deadlines For Presidential Bid

Rapper, Kanye West garnered mixed reviews when he announced that he would run for President of the United States in 2020. He shared the announcement on Twitter writing:

We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States ! #2020VISION

This isn’t the first time Kanye West has thrown his hat into the presidential ring. In 2015, during his performance at the VMAs, Kanye West delivered a speech, declaring he’d be running in the race for 2020. However, he pushed it back to 2024 last November.

But now, according to reports, it looks like it may be too late for the rapper to appear on several states’ ballots.

According to reports, it is too late for him to file as an independent candidate in four states, and it doesn’t appear that he has registered with the Federal Election Committee either.

According to a Ballotpedia list of state deadlines, West has missed the deadline to register as an independent presidential candidate in several states including North Carolina, Texas, New Mexico and Indiana.

Reportedly, while West could run in these states as a write-in candidate, rules for write-in candidates vary from state to state and often do not count: A 2016 Washington Post report said that states often opted to tally the votes for all write-in candidates in an “other” category.

While his friend and CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk and Kanye West’s super famous wife, Kim Kardashian West shared their support of the rapper, there has been no follow up from Kanye as to his sincerity to run for President.
