EXCLUSIVE: Syleena Johnson Says Black Woman Are The Lowest On The Totem Pole: There Is A Majority Of Black Men Who Disrespect Us

Syleena Johnson exclusively sat down with theJasmineBRAND where she discussed her feelings about voting, a lack of support for black women, and the disadvantages the black community as a whole endure. When asked her opinion about protecting black women, the 45-year-old singer and television co-host had this to say,

“I don’t want to present a stance that disconnects black men from us. Black men are also in need of protection. They need to be protected from this government and this country. As we can see, it is not protecting them, in tern, you’re not protecting our men , obviously we cannot be protected because our men are not protected. –But then their is a mindset that our men had adapted.

She continued,

“Not only that, society does not protect us either. We’re [black women] the lowest on the totem pole. It’s like White men, white woman, black men, black women. We’re all the way at the bottom.”

LeBron James, Breonna Taylor

Syleena Johnson gave kudos to Lebron James for speaking out about the injustice towards Breonna Taylor, however, Syleena explains that she wants to see black men overall show more support towards black women. She said,

There are black men that really stand up for us. But there is a majority of black men that also disrespect us, just as quick as they stand up for us. Even with voting, so black men don’t vote. It’s a whole known thing. We already know it’s very hard to get black men to vote. — But if we could get black men to be in alignment like white women are in an alignment with white men when they go done to the poles, we’d be something else. And I’m not  talking about just voting. I’m taking about in community, within ourselves, within our families, and within our communities.”

She explains that this is not just a one sided argument and that we all have to do better.
