Gun violence has recently become a recurring issue in the hip-hop community. New York rapper Benny the Butcher, real name Jeremie Pennick, has reportedly been shot in the leg during an attempted robbery in Houston, Texas. The incident occurred in the parking lot of a local Walmart. Houston police said the rapper was at the Walmart with friends when five men wearing ski-masks approached the group and demanded their jewelry. When Benny and his friends did not remove their chains quickly enough, one of the men shot the rapper in the leg. Authorities say Benny was taken to a nearby hospital by EMS after he tried to drive himself. He’s reportedly being treated with a non-life-threatening injury and is expected to recover. An investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
