Erykah Badu Says She Skipped Friendship Phase With Ex Andre 3000: We Didn’t Become Friends First, We Were Attracted To Each Other First. Over The Years We’ve Become Closer & Closer.

Erykah Badu (real name Erica Wright) dated rapper André 3000 (real name André Benjamin) from 1995-1999. They had one child together, Seven Benjamin, who was born in 1997, and it is Andre 3000’s only child.

Nearly 25 years later, in a new interview, Erykah Badu says that they skipped the friendship phase when they met and went right to boyfriend/girlfriend.

“When we became boyfriend and girlfriend in the ‘90s, we didn’t become friends first. We were attracted to each other first.”

Adding,

“We had stuff in common, but we didn’t learn all of that until over the years. We have a 23-year-old son. Over these years, we’ve just become closer and closer as friends, as humans, as man, as woman.”

Erykah Badu adds that after all of these years they are still on great terms, and Andre 3000 is one of her best friends on the planet,

“He just left Dallas, actually. He came down for my grandma’s memorial. He’s one of my best friends on the planet.”

She added that they are big fans of each other and are “really close”.

“I care for him so very much, about his livelihood, his art, his feelings. And I’m a super big fan of him. I’m assuming he’s also a fan of my music. We’re really close.

We laugh all the time, talk about things. It’s brother and sister, it’s grandmother and grandson, it’s father and daughter. It’s so many different things depending on what the situation calls for.”

In a previous interview, Andre 3000, shared that they were contemplating on whether they should have their son, Seven Benjamin.

He reveals,

“Me and Erykah actually had to sit down and figure if we were going to keep this child.”

Ultimately, they decided to continue with the pregnancy,

“She would hit the stage, I would hit the stage, then we would go back to the hotel and I would be putting shea butter on her stomach.”

Erykah Badu also has a daughter, Puma Sabti Curry with rapper The D.O.C. and her third child, a girl named Mars Merkaba Thedford, is with rapper Jay Electronica.
