Blue Ivy Carter Is Nominated For A Grammy Award For ‘Brown Skin Girl’ Video, One Of The Youngest Nominees In History
Blue Ivy Carter’s history-making moves continue just weeks before she turns nine years old next month.
The oldest child of Beyonce and Jay-Z has been added to a Grammy nomination for Beyonce’s Brown Skin Girl video, making her one of the youngest in history to get a nod for the coveted award.
The video is currently up for Best Music Video.
While she wasn’t listed in the original nomination last month, she was added on Friday (Dec. 11th). The academy said she met the following requirements for the nod and pointed out:
“in order for a featured artist to be recognized as a nominee, 1) the artist must be credited and recognized as a featured artist; and 2) there must be significant performance and artistic contribution by the featured artist beyond what might be considered merely accompaniment.”
She’s already received credit for the song as she won an NAACP Image Award for outstanding duo, group, or collaboration, as well as a Soul Train Award for video of the year. Beyonce, Saint Jhn, and WizKid also won those awards for the song, which was featured on The Lion King: The Gift.
The video was released in August and featured familiar faces like Kelly Rowland, Naomi Campbell, and Lupita Nyong’o.
Also up for Best Music Video are Future featuring Drake’s “Life Is Good,” “Lockdown,” by Anderson.Paak, Harry Styles’ “Adore You” and “Goliath” by Woodkid.
