Elon Musk Surpasses Jeff Bezos As The Richest Man In The World

SpaceX owner and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has taken Jeff Bezos’ spot as the richest person in the world.

Jeff Bezos is CEO, and president of the multi-national technology company Amazon.  Shares for Tesla recently showed a 5% rise, increasing Elon Musk’s stock options from $9.3 billion to $190 billion.  Jeff Bezos was only $3 billion short, as Amazon had a 2% rise in shares, going from $2.7 billion, to $187 billion.

The billionaire who came in right after the two men is Bill Gates, whose net worth is currently $132 billion. Jeff Bezos’ company Amazon reportedly lost $4.3 billion in value of the company’s stocks, after it was announced that Democrats now control the Senate.

Amazon’s shares went up by $75 billion, totaling $173.3 million during the COVID-19 pandemic, while Tesla increased $106 billion during 2020.

Elon Musk celebrated his win on Twitter by saying “How strange,” adding “Well, back to work ”

This is a big jump for Elon Musk, who started off 2020 worth $27 billion.

Forbes estimated that Jeff Bezos is worth about $90 billion more than Bill Gates, who was the world’s second-richest person and currently worth $116.1 billion.

Jeff Bezos’s former wife, MacKenzie Scott, is the world’s 14th-richest person and the 2nd-richest woman. Following their publicized divorce last year, Bezos agreed to give MacKenzie Scott 25% of his Amazon stake.
