Keyshia Cole’s DJ Explains Why She Was Late For Verzuz & Seemed Irritated
Keyshia Cole‘s DJ is revealing why the singer appeared to be roughly an hour late for last night’s highly-anticipated Verzuz event with Ashanti.
The battle between Ashanti and Keyshia Cole took place Thursday (Jan. 21) after being postponed twice because of COVID-19 concerns. theJasmineBRAND initially broke the story.

The new date came after Verzuz announced the battles would no longer take place in person amid the pandemic.

In a new interview with Houston’s 97.9 The Box, Keyshia Cole’s DJ gave some back story as to what was going on behind the scenes. He confirms that despite starting late, the singer was in fact there on time but due to sound issues and the blurriness on her end, she did not want to come out.
“In Keyshia’s defense I can truly say that she didn’t want to come out because her screen was blurry. On her end her screen was blurry… She was there on time, I was there, I saw everything, she was there. But she didn’t want to come out because the screen was blurry, and stuff wasn’t right.”
He adds,
“We couldn’t hear they side, so it was a lot of technical stuff going on in there you know.”
He added,
“Because she’s a perfectionist and when stuff don’t go the right way, it’s downhill from there. I can say that, and that’s just the truth. She was already upset about it being pushed back like it was anyway, but it’s COVID, you know?”
He said Verzuz getting postponed also impacted the release date of her latest record.
“And then you know so the build up, it made her have to push her record back, so that was big on the brain. It just threw he energy off.”
He also spoke on her energy and added,
“I did the best I could to try to bring her back, but by that time she was already upset you know. ‘My stuff blurry, it ain’t right.'”
The DJ then touches on rapper OT Genasis popping up on Keyshia Cole’s side to sing his version of her song with her. He says that it was a big deal for Keyshia Cole to do that after they had a feud over him covering her song “Love.”
“Well, I was sittin in the studio and then he walked in, I was like ‘Oh snap.’ I said I guess they must have made up, But for them to do that, that says a lot because Keyshia don’t, she don’t play man. For her to do that I was like ‘D—.’ For her to even come back around, cuz when she go there, she go there.”
