Vanessa Bryant Slams Actress Evan Rachel Wood For Calling Kobe Bryant A ‘Rapist’ After His Death
Vanessa Bryant recently caught wind of some disparaging comments made about her late husband, NBA legend, Kobe Bryant. Just hours after Kobe Bryant’s death on Jan. 26, 2020, actress Evan Rachel Wood took to social media and labeled Kobe a ‘rapist’. Wood tweeted,
“What has happened is tragic. I am heartbroken for Kobe’s family. He was a sports hero. He was also a rapist. And all of these truths can exist simultaneously.”

Vanessa Bryant took to Instagram on Saturday (Feb.27) to defend her late husband against rape allegations, noting that the comments made by Wood was recently brought to her attention over a year later. Vanessa shared a screenshot of Evan Rachel Wood’s tweet and added a message of her own. Bryant wrote,
“Your false, insensitive, defamatory and slanderous tweet on 1/26/20 is vile and disturbing to say the least? Behavior like this is part of the reason why innocent black men go to jail for crimes they didn’t commit. An accusation doesn’t make someone guilty. YOU DON’T KNOW THE FACTS OF THE CASE.”

Vanessa Bryant sent the same message to film producer Abigail Disney, who tweeted just days after Kobe Bryant’s death,
“The man was a rapist. Deal with it.”

Kobe Bryant was accused of sexual assault back in 2003 by a 19-year-old hotel employee in Colorado. Bryant, who was 24 at the time, admitted he had a sexual encounter with the woman, but maintained it was consensual. Prosecutors dropped the charges after the accuser declined to testify. She later brought a civil case against the Los Angeles Laker, which was settled out of court in 2005.

Evan Rachel Wood’s tweet on Jan.26, 2020 garnered some backlash and even caught the attention of actress Kyla Pratt who stepped in to defend the Bryant’s. Pratt wrote,
“Evan. We met as kids & I grew up in the same industry as you and have admired your work from afar these past few years. On camera and off. But this tweet? How f**king dare you?”
Vanessa posted and thanked Kyla Pratt for her response to Wood.
“Thank you @kylapratt [heart emoji]”

Neither women have responded to Vanessa’s comments.
