Chadwick Boseman’s Brother Says He Was Not Snubbed For Best Actor Oscar Award, Congratulates Winner
Chadwick Boseman‘s brother claims that there is no bad blood over the star’s perceived Oscars snub.
The Black Panther star, who passed away from colon cancer in August 2020, was posthumously nominated for Best Actor in the 93rd Academy Awards for his contribution to Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
However, many were shocked to hear Anthony Hopkins‘ name called instead of Chadwick Boseman’s. Anthony Hopkins was nominated for Best Actor for his role in The Father, and–upon winning–he paid tribute to the posthumous Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom star in his next-day acceptance speech, stating:
“I want to pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who was taken from us far too early.”
In response to Anthony Hopkins‘ win, some fans have claimed that Chadwick Boseman was snubbed at the Oscars and truly deserved to win Best Actor. However, Chadwick‘s own family–specifically his brother, Derrick Boseman, recently spoke to TMZ in order to clear things up.
Derrick Boseman says that there are absolutely no hard feelings or any sense of Chadwick being snubbed for the award. He wishes Anthony and his loved ones the best following his win, adding:
“I’m sure [Anthony] would if Chad won.”
Derrick Boseman goes on to say that each and every actor who was nominated was deserving of the award and that Chadwick himself would not have taken the Oscars loss too seriously. Referencing Chadwick‘s feelings regarding the Academy Awards, Derrick stated:
“[Chadwick] always described them to me as a campaign.”
Despite others’ feelings on the subject, it seems as though Chadwick‘s family is content with the results of the 93rd Oscars.
