Trey Songz Not Facing Charges After Fighting With Cop During Kansas City Chiefs Game

It looks like Trey Songz is in the clear and not facing legal charges for allegedly inciting a brawl with a police officer at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

The January 24th incident allegedly went down on account of Trey Songz refusing to comply with guidelines meant to protect stadium-goers from COVID-19 exposure. After refusing to leave and subsequently being arrested for trespassing, the “Neighbors Know My Name” singer allegedly punched and placed an officer in a headlock. He was then successfully removed from the premises and booked in the Jackson County Jail.

Shortly after Trey Songz’s arrest, the Kansas City Police Department released a statement on the incident:

“During last night’s AFC Championship game, fans complained that a man was not following the Arrowhead fans’ code of conduct or the mandates of the Kansas City Missouri Health Department. They asked for private security to address the matter. The man was not receptive and refused to comply with Arrowhead security. Security then asked him to leave. He refused to leave.”

The statement continues,

“At that point they requested law enforcement assistance in ejecting him from the stadium. Officers advised the man that if he did not leave, he would be arrested for trespassing. He still refused to comply, at which point officers told him he was under arrest. The man then punched a police officer and put him in a headlock. Other officers then came to the scene and were able to get the man into custody without further incident.”

However, recent reports indicate that Trey Songz will not face charges for the scuffle. Speaking on behalf of the Jackson County prosecutor’s office, Mike Mansur claimed that there was “insufficient evidence” to successfully file charges and take the incident to the courtroom.

Mansur did not comment further on the decision, and Trey Songz’s representative–Sydney Margetson–refused to comment.
