LHNNY’s Mendeecees On Yandy Staying W/ Him While He Was In Prison: If The Shoe Was On The Other Foot, I Don’t Know What I Would Be Able To Do [WATCH]
For better or for worse… right?
Monday night’s (April 26th) episode of VH1’s Couple’s Retreat dove into Mendeecees Harris and Yandy Smith‘s relationship, and issues stemming from Mendeecees Harris’ incarceration instantly came up for the Love and Hip Hop: New York couple.
As you may recall, Mendeecees Harris‘ past as a drug trafficker between NYC and Rochester, NY caught up with him. As a result, the reality star served four years of an 8-10 year federal prison sentence back in 2015. His partner and LHHNY co-star, Yandy Smith, held him down throughout his sentence.
While Mendeecees and Yandy Smith reunited early after his early release in 2020, Couple’s Retreat audiences saw how the experience still affects their union.

After AJ Johnson–a coach on the show–asks the couple if there are any insecurities between them, Yandy opens up, claiming:
“I feel like when he was locked up, I was locked up.”
In response to this revelation, Mendeecees accuses Yandy of not emailing him for months at a time and lying about talking to him every day of his incarceration.
In turn, Yandy reacts within her commentary:
“This isn’t the first time this phone call/email thing has come up, and I normally just brush it away, but now I’m frustrated.”
She continues,
“Do you understand what my life was like? I’m raising two babies, I’m running five companies, but you wanna talk about emails? And calls? Talk about how these bills [were] gonna get paid. I don’t have time to write emails and letters!”
Continuing to share his feelings about their relationship during his incarceration, Mendeecees admits:
“I started to feel like I was put on a shelf… Treat me the same. Don’t mishandle me like that–not when I give her the opportunity [to leave me] if [she] ever get[s] tired or it becomes too much.”
Yandy then states that Mendeecees‘ statements regarding her being able to leave if she wanted to made her feel as though she was “easy to get over.” She then inquires:
“If the roles were reversed, would you hold me down?”
After a few moments of silence, Mendeecees responds:
“If the shoe was on the other foot, I don’t know what I would be able to do.”
In her commentary, Yandy tearfully describes her feelings after hearing Mendeecees’ revelation:
“So Mendeecees finally admitted that he doesn’t know if he would’ve stayed with me if the roles were reversed. And that’s so hurtful because people have said to me ‘you’re doing all this, [but] would he do the same for you?’ And I’ve always combated with ‘yeah, he would. We love each other. But to hear him sit here in my face and say ‘I don’t know’? Like that’s so unfair.”
