Ellen DeGeneres To End Long-Running Talk Show After 19 Seasons: It’s Not A Challenge Anymore
All projects have their eventual end, and Ellen DeGeneres thinks the time has come to wrap up her talk show gig!
As previously reported, The Ellen DeGeneres Show recently suffered from a harsh tank in viewership. The ratings drop is assumed to be on account of the various allegations levied against the show itself and its host, Ellen DeGeneres. On top of the talk show being an alleged toxic environment of racism and sexism, Ellen DeGeneres herself has been described as a bully in her professional and personal life.
Now, The Daily Mail reports that Ellen has decided to end her talk show–which has been on air since 2003–because she “has had enough and told her team that she’s done.” Their source claims:
“She’s promised one more season after this one and will exit at the end of the 2021/2022 season–the 19th season of the show. The ratings have tanked and have been truly appalling this year and Ellen knows her time is up.”
The source also confirms that the drop in ratings is indeed on account of the bullying allegations against Ellen, saying:
“The show has bled viewers since the toxic environment around Ellen and her show was made public.”
Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter interviewed Ellen, who said the leave is for different reasons. She states:
“When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged – and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore.”
Ellen announced her decision to her staff just yesterday (Tuesday, May 11th). She will publicly discuss the decision with Oprah Winfrey on tomorrow’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show (Thursday, May 13th).
