Swizz Beatz, Timbaland, and DJ D-Nice’s cultural movements during quarantine have garnered them a prestigious award.
The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) announced yesterday (June 8th) that all three will be honored with the “Voice of the Culture Award” at the 2021 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards on June 22nd.
ASCAP said in a press release,
“The award, presented to ASCAP members who have had a major influence on music and culture, will recognize their success as creators of Verzuz and Club Quarantine, two virtual events that became touchstones of empowerment through music during the pandemic.”
Swizz Beatz and Timbaland birthed the now-iconic Verzuz battles in the heat of the nationwide quarantine. Stars like Babyface and Teddy Riley, Patti Labelle and Gladys Knight, and Brandy and Monica are just some of the artists who have participated so far.
At the same time, D-Nice provided virtual feel-good music through IG Live’s Club Quarantine, attended by the likes of Halle Berry and Michelle Obama.
Immediately after receiving their award, all three are expected to speak on how their features helped inspire the Black community, as well as their success throughout their careers during the 2021 ASCAP Experience conversation, Voices of the Culture: How Swizz Beatz, Timbaland & D-Nice United the World Through Music.
The 2021 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards will be held virtually from June 22nd – June 24th.
Congrats Timbaland, Swizz Beatz & D-Nice!
