John Boyega’s Reasons For Leaving ‘Rebel Ridge’ Are Met W/ Speculation – Actor Cited Family Reasons For Departure, But Sources Claim He Just Left

Aside from “family reasons,” could other factors have influenced John Boyega‘s abrupt exit from Rebel Ridge?

Back in early June, actor John Boyega announced he would not continue filming Netflix’s Rebel Ridge. In his statement, he claimed the decision was influenced by family reasons. However, others close to the project had a different story.

According to The Hollywood Reporter‘s sources, John Boyega abruptly left the project–with the filmmakers allegedly only finding out after discovering he vacated his hotel room. Some insiders claim that there was nothing that would have prompted his sudden departure. Others, however, allege John Boyega had a number of issues while filming, such as not liking the script or his living accommodations.

As a result of John Boyega‘s abrupt departure, production disbanded–costing many crewmembers their jobs. However, there are reportedly plans in the works for filming to resume in early 2022.

In response to the allegations, however, John Boyega‘s agent–Femi Oguns–denied the claims. In an email to The Hollywood Reporter the agent wrote:

“I can categorically say that these rumours are completely untrue. People will form their opinions often rooted from boredom. As stated John unfortunately left due to family reasons which in truth is none of anyone’s business except his own. John and Netflix have a wonderful relationship which will continue to grow for years to come whether that be through his acting or through [Boyega’s production company] UpperRoom.”

In response to the speculation, John Boyega soon began trending on Twitter–where people were largely supportive of the star. Here’s what some users had to say about the situation:
