Jada Pinkett Smith Revealed She Passed Out On Set Of ‘Nutty Professor’ Because Of ‘A Bad Batch Of Ecstasy’: I Went To Work High
Jada Pinkett Smith’s addiction to ecstasy not only impacted her health but her career.
She revealed on yesterday’s (July 7th) episode of Red Table Talk that her use of the drug caused her to have a scary moment on The Nutty Professor. Jada Pinkett Smith starred in the first installment of the film, which was released in 1996.
While discussing her addiction to drugs and alcohol she said,
“I had one incident on ‘Nutty Professor.’ I passed out. I went to work high, and it was a bad batch of ecstasy. And I passed out.”
She added,
“I told everybody that I must have had old medication in a vitamin bottle.”
She went on to say that the moment was a turning point for her. She was able to complete the workday, but went “cold turkey” the next day.
She also spoke on her previous drinking habits and said,
“I wasn’t the type of person who was drinking every day, I was like a weekend party girl. Thursday to Monday morning, I would go.”
Her daughter and Red Table Talk co-host Willow Smith explained to her mom that she still plans on smoking marijuana despite the actress’s stories. Jada Pinkett Smith told her,
“That’s why you have to trust the eyes around you. Because you won’t know. And that was the thing with me. Don’t think that people didn’t try to tap me on my shoulder.”
She also quickly referenced a moment that occurred at Debbie Allen’s home, but didn’t go into detail. She said,
“Don’t think that when I was at Debbie Allen’s throwing up all over her house —”
Debbie Allen served as a director for A Different World, which Jada Pinkett Smith starred in in the 1990s.
