EXCLUSIVE: RHOP’s Gizelle Bryant & Robyn Dixon Dish On Their New Podcast, ‘Stupid’ Colorism Comments Made By Candiace Dillard & What Fans Can Expect From New Season: A Lot Of Unnecessary Drama & Nonsense

In an exclusive interview with theJasmineBRAND.com, RHOP’s Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon chatted with us about their recently launched podcast, Reasonably Shady, and what it was like working with the popular black-owned designer brand, Telfar. They also dished on where they currently stand with cast members Candiace Dillard Bassett and Karen Huger and gave a few hints on what fans can expect to see during the highly anticipated upcoming season of The Real Housewives Of Potomac.

Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon are well known for being leading ladies on the reality series Real Housewives Of Potomac. The best friend duo is often referred to as the ‘green-eyed bandits’ by their castmates and their bond on the show is undeniable.

However, their friendship actually started years before the premiere of Potomac in 2016. Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon have a lot in common, both are successful businesswomen, mothers, and aren’t afraid to say what’s on their minds. They launched their very own podcast, Reasonably Shady, this past May, and during their time with us, Gizelle explained what inspired them to become podcasters. She said,

“Robyn and I did [an Instagram live together] during the pandemic and we had so much fun with it! Everybody was like giving their little comments, we were answering the comments, we just had fun. And then everybody was like ‘You know what, you guys should have a podcast.’”

Robyn added,

“Yeah, because you know we feel like on a podcast you can really get to know us. You can learn our personality, you can learn more about our relationship and our friendship, more than you can on the show. Having a podcast kind of gives us the freedom to really just be ourselves and have fun without dealing with the drama and the storylines of [RHOP].”

Reasonably Shady is under Charlamagne Tha God’s podcast network, The Black Effect, and new episodes are available every Monday. Robyn explained why they decided to name their podcast, Reasonably Shady.

“The name Reasonably Shady, I came up with the name, because I’m usually the reasonable one and [Gizelle] is usually the shady one no matter what.”

Charlamagne

When asked how hands-on Charlamagne is with the creative process of Reasonably Shady, Gizelle revealed that the well-known media personality lets them have full creative control of the show.

“He kind of gave us the creative freedom to do our thing…It was very clear- I’ve met him before- it’s very clear that he does not know much about Housewives and he probably doesn’t even care and that’s fine! But we are different- with the Black Effect family, we’re different. Our podcast is different from the rest of the other podcasts that are on the platform which was a great fit for us because, you know, we need- we mix in a variety, so he lets us do our thing.”

Last month InStyle released a shoot with the ladies of RHOP, including season 6 newcomer Mia Thornton, and Telfar Clemens, founder of the Telfar fashion label. In the images, which went viral after their release, the Potomac stars look stunning as they rocked clothing for the Telfar and Ugg collaboration. Gizelle shared exclusively with theJasmineBrand what working with Telfar Clemens was like.

“It was an amazing thing to do! We’ve all seen Telfar’s story, he kind of seemed like he kind of came from nowhere but he’s been out here grinding and he’s a black designer so of course, it was awesome for us to work with him and InStyle! RHOP was in InStyle Magazine!”

She added that Telfar Clemens is working on his own movie and behind-the-scenes footage from the shoot might be featured in the project.

“And to give a little plug, I believe while we were filming it Telfar, separately, was making a movie that he is going to showcase sometime soon, I believe.”

Robyn confirmed what she shared and added,

“Yeah! Well, I mean, I’m not going to tell his business, but yeah, he was. So hopefully there’s some video footage that comes out.”

Season 6 of RHOP aired Sunday (July, 11 ) on Bravo. As mentioned above, Mia Thornton is a new main cast member and is seemingly replacing former housewife Monique Samuels following her exit from the show. When asked how does she feel about the latest addition to the show Gizelle replied,

“Mia, I feel like she was a great addition. She started off a little shaky [and] was brought on by Karen [Huger] so you could probably guess that Karen was in her ear about [me] and…you know, Mia- started out a little rocky.”

She added,

“She found her way and, you know, I don’t have anything bad to say about Mia. I think she’s great.”

Robyn shared similar views on Mia and added,

“Mia actually has a very interesting story and life so I think the viewers will be excited and intrigued by Mia herself, and so I think she’s an awesome addition to the show.”

Gizelle also gave us an update on her on-again-off-again friendship with housewife Karen Huger.

“We’re good! We’re actually okay but I mean…I don’t want the fans to be sad. You’re gonna see some blow-out epic Gizelle [and] Karen drama [this season].”

She jokingly added,

“I don’t know where [our relationship dynamics] came from. I think Karen just wakes up and she just hates my name.”

Karen and Mia weren’t the only Potomac women that Gizelle and Robyn dished on. Last month Candiace Dillard Bassett made headlines after she called out colorism and claimed Ashley Darby being light-skinned is the reason she gets away with saying certain things and receives less hate from fans of the series.

However, according to Gizelle, that isn’t true.

“It was stupid. I’m gonna tell you why, who gets the most shade? Who gets the most backlash? Who gets the most hateration, [me and Robyn].”

Robyn added,

“And Ashley! Ashley spent three seasons being dragged by the fans and the only reason why maybe, you know, recently Ashley has [fallen] into a better favor of the fans is- I think we got to see a different side of her as a mother, so I think people have short memories. Candiace’s memories a little short but Ashley has definitely paid her dues.”

Before our time with the Reasonably Shady ladies came to an end they filled us in on what we can expect from season 6 of RHOP and what it was like filming amid the COVID-19 pandemic. When speaking on the newest season Gizelle said,

“I feel like there are some unexpected changes with [certain] friendships. I think you’re gonna see a lot of unnecessary nonsense and drama. You’re going to see people’s heads fly off their shoulders.”

Robyn then touched on the difficulties of shooting a tv show while being cautious of not contracting COVID-19.

“Shooting during a pandemic was really – I felt like this was one of the hardest seasons that we’ve shot just because there were so many precautions we had to take. We had to take [COVID] tests twice a week. We couldn’t really have a lot of people out like outsiders. So our events look a lot different. The things that we do, the places we go look a lot different. But, you know, I feel like it gave us a good time to actually get to know each other better.”

Robyn also touched on what fans can expect with their podcast as the first season continues to unfold.

“We’re gonna start having advice columns, so people can send in their questions if they want
reasonable or shady advice.”

She added,

“There are so many current events that we talk about. You’re going to continue to learn about us. Just, you know, our upbringing, just us behind the scenes, us as parents and mothers and friends.”

New episodes of Reasonably Shady are released every Monday and can be streamed wherever podcasts are available,
