Webbie Concert In Lafayette, Louisiana Ends In Shootout That Leaves One Person Dead
Webbie‘s recent concert in Louisiana wound up taking a violent turn, leaving one concertgoer dead.
This past Saturday (August 7th), Webbie (real name Webster Gradney Jr.) performed a concert in Lafayette, Louisiana. However, things took a negative turn as shots were fired in the venue’s parking lot Sunday morning (Aug. 8th). As a result, a 22-year-old man named Dashawn Batiste was killed, and a woman was left with non-life-threatening injuries.
An off-duty officer with the Lafayette Police Department was working as security for the concert, and he immediately responded to the shooting. As he approached the scene, the gunman fired a shot toward the officer–and he resultingly fired back. The officer was uninjured, and it’s not clear whether his gunshot made contact with the suspect. He has been placed on administrative leave pending a departmental investigation, which is standard procedure for the Lafayette Police Department.
No arrests have been made yet.
Regarding the incident, Trooper Thomas Gossen–a spokesperson for the Lafayette Police Department–stated:
“There were several parties shooting at each other across the parking lot. There was an active shooting going on before the officer basically engaged them. The whole parking lot is a crime scene.”
Webbie has not publicly commented on the shooting.
