Kanye West Rushed ‘Donda’ Release To ‘One-Up’ Drake, Producer Claims
Was Kanye West afraid to release ‘Donda‘ after ‘Certified Lover Boy?’
Producer Todd Rundgren is getting candid about working with Kanye West, 44, on his 10th studio album ‘Donda.’

After fans experienced a series of delays and three ‘Donda‘ listening parties, the album was finally released on Aug. 29.
In an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, musician and producer Rundgren opened up about working with West and that he allegedly rushed the new album to ‘one-up’ Drake.
On his time with West, Rundgren said,
“My involvement went on for a year, and in the end I realized why they hurriedly wrapped the whole thing up and put out what is obviously really raw, unprocessed stuff. It’s because Drake was running the whole process.”
Drake released ‘CLB‘ on Sept. 3 and recently broke a record for having nine songs in the top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, including the No.1 spot.

Todd Rundgren continued,
“[He] was too afraid that Drake would one-up him, so he hurried up and released the album the weekend before Drake could get his out. And in the end Drake ate his lunch anyways.”
Elaborating on his work experience, Rundgren reported that none of his work made the final cut. He added,
“I’m one of the few artists not on Kanye’s album. I have three albums worth of Kanye stems on my computer because I kept getting called by Kanye to add vocals onto the record. When it got into the homestretch in July, I just said, ‘That’s enough for me. I have no idea whether any of this is being used.’”
He added,
“You don’t get much feedback from him regarding what it is. I’m still a producer, and I don’t just want to be like driftwood in the process. If I can contribute something, fine. If I can’t, just let me know. I’m out of here. There is a possibility that I’m actually in there somewhere. There’s so much junk in that record.”
Rundgren is another artist who claimed to be left off West’s latest album after Soulja Boy and Chris Brown previously called him out. But despite the backlash, the album went on to become a No. 1, tying West with Emienm for 10 consecutive number one albums.
