R. Kelly Declines To Take The Stand At His Sex Trafficking Trial

After numerous witnesses have testified at R. Kelly‘s trial, the disgraced singer has chosen to not take the stand.

As a result, R. Kelly will not tell his side of the story to jurors–though he will notably be spared of a possibly damaging cross-examination from the prosecution.

U.S. District Judge Ann Connelly asked R. Kelly:

“You don’t want to testify, correct?”

In response, the disgraced R&B singer stated:

“Yes, ma’am.”

Since R. Kelly has decided to not take the stand, the defense is expected to wrap up by the end of today (Wednesday, Sept. 22nd). As the prosecution recently rested its case, the next step in the trial would be for both sides to make closing arguments.

R. Kelly‘s decision comes after several witnesses provided testimony during his sex trafficking trial. Notably, various testimonies shed light on R. Kelly‘s previous illegal relationship with Aaliyah during the 1990s. Earlier this month, a former backup dancer claimed she walked in on R. Kelly performing oral sex on Aaliyah when she was just 14. Additionally, another witness testified that R. Kelly, who was 27 at the time, illegally married Aaliyah when she was 15 to help her get an abortion.
