One-Time Child Actress Jonshel Alexander, Who Starred In ‘Beasts Of The Southern Wild’, Murdered At 22 [CONDOLENCES]
Former child star Jonshel Alexander has tragically passed away in her native Louisiana.
Back in early 2012, Beasts of the Southern Wild debuted in theatres. The drama film centered on a community situated deep in the remote Louisiana bayou, and it specifically focused on stars Quvenzhané Wallis and Dwight Henry. Notably, Quvenzhané Wallis made history with her role, as it earned her the title of the youngest person to be nominated for an Oscar in the Best Actress category.
Another person who contributed to the hit film was Jonshel Alexander, who starred as Joy Strong when she was 12 years old. Her character was one of the supporting acts who was friends with Quvenzhané Wallis‘ Hushpuppy character.
However, tragedy has just struck, leading to the onetime child star’s murder at just 22 years old. This past Saturday night (Nov. 26th), Jonshel Alexander and a man she was with were shot inside of a car in New Orleans‘ 7th Ward. While the man survived and was able to drive himself to the hospital, Jonshel Alexander was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jonshel is survived by her mother, Shelly Alexander, and one-year-old daughter. Regarding Jonshel, Shelly Alexander stated:
“She brought life to everything. Jonshel was feisty, jazzy, spoiled. It was her way or no way. Jonshel was like, ‘It’s going to be me.'”
Quvenzhané Wallis also acknowledged the tragedy on Instagram by uploading a picture of her with Jonshel Alexander, captioned:
“When were filming we were always together and I wish I could go back in time so I can see you again. I love you. You will be missed by so many.”
We send our heartfelt condolences to Jonshel Alexander’s loved ones at this troubling time.
